Boucheron Serpent Bohème: a collection that never ceases to innovate

Only very few collections ever really attain mythical status in the world of jewellery, but there can be no doubt that Boucheron Serpent Bohème makes the cut. Instantly recognisable, this Paris fashion house’s serpent has been shedding its skin in a cycle of growth and innovation lasting over 50 years now, yet its essence remains immutable.

First available to the public in 1968, the Serpent line actually came into being much earlier, in 1888, thanks to Frederic Boucheron‘s fascination with these ancestral symbols. Out of this passion was born a necklace in yellow gold and diamonds shaped like a reptile – a present from Boucheron to his wife, Gabrielle.

The jewel immediately became more widely known, and the serpent underwent its first transformation – from primitive symbol to jewellery icon – before eventually, in the 60s, coming to form the subject of a fully fledged collection of its own.

This success is constantly evolving and renewing itself, thanks to ongoing innovation in conjunction with master goldsmithery and chasing; a search for light which is best exemplified in the honeycomb structured settings of the Serpent Bohème jewels.

Rose and yellow gold, the fashion house’s signature materials, are used to create woven textures in both necklaces and bracelets.

Since 2017, the Serpent Bohème collection has been undergoing its latest revival thanks to the introduction of a new colour palette. Rich and vivid, the characteristic Pantone shades of a variety of select precious stones have once again breathed new life into the traditional teardrop shape. Earrings, rings, bracelets and necklaces reflect a modern femininity which, just like the stylised snake head, draws energy from gems and precious stones.
