Zenith Chronomaster

2021 was without a doubt the year of the Zenith Chronomaster, in particular its Sport version – a watch which perfectly encapsulates the unique and exclusive legacy of Zenith automatic chronographs. Faithful to the spirit of the original A386 which clearly provided the inspiration for its dial, the Chronomaster Sport also features three overlapping counters in complementary tones and a date window at 4:30.

Representing the modern evolution of an iconic Zenith timepiece, the Zenith Chronomaster Sport sets new standards for precision, performance and design. It would be impossible to describe the Zenith Chronomaster Sport without talking about its movement, based on a contemporary reworking of the legendary Zenith El Primero, the El Primero caliber 3600. Thanks to its 5Hz escapement with an oscillatory frequency of 36,000 beats per hour, the automatic El Primero 3600 calibre is accurate to 1/10th of a second, marked on both the bezel and the dial itself.

Time elapsed is tracked via the chronographic hand in the centre of the dial, which makes a full revolution every 10 seconds and whose progress can be tracked directly on the corresponding 1/10th of a second notches of the ceramic bezel. This is read in conjunction with the second counter at 3 o’clock.

There is no shortage of innovation from an aesthetic perspective either: the sapphire crystal of the case back enables us to see the blue column-wheel and winding rotor with its Zenith star, through which further components below can be glimpsed. The shape and finish of the bridges give the Zenith Chronomaster a decidedly contemporary look.
