Who is Federico Malighetti, the new Zenith Defy testimonial
Born in 1977, Malighetti is a management engineer who, after a successful professional career, decided in 2011 to devote himself to his passions and in particular to sporting activities, including extreme ones. His many achievements include the New York marathon, deep-sea trekking in Nepal and triathlons. He has also taken part in the first Ironman in Sweden (a triathlon held in the city of Kalmar, on the Baltic Sea), the Polar Circle Marathon in Greenland, a marathon on the polar ice cap in temperatures of -30°, and numerous competitions such as the Marathon des Sables in 2017 and the Fire and Ice, in Iceland in 2019, a 250 km ultramarathon in self-sufficiency.
He is currently engaged in an ambitious goal among the most desired by “limitless” mountaineers, which is to reach the seven highest peaks on their respective continents. This undertaking, known as the ‘Seven Summits Challenge’, has led him to climb Kilimanjaro and Aconcagua in the past year.

The Zenith Defy Extreme: the perfect watch for climbing the world's highest peaks
The Defy watch has accompanied Federico Malighetti during his many activities and climbs in the name of emotion and travel. In particular, the Defy Extreme line, with its futuristic features, where form and function are at the service of adventurous and demanding undertakings during which elements such as precision and robustness are of fundamental importance, is the one that best meets the needs of the sportsman.
A powerful and structured chronograph, the Defy Extreme has a large case with a diameter of 45 millimetres, a thickness of 15.40 millimetres and water resistance to 200 metres (20 atmospheres). With its tapered lines, more pronounced edges and extremely robust architecture, it comes in three different titanium versions, including the dodecagonal ring positioned under the bezel, which evokes the Defy A3642 of the Sixties: micro-sandblasted matt titanium; polished/satin-finished titanium; micro-sandblasted matt titanium and polished rose gold.
The highly legible skeleton dial has a 50-hour power reserve indicator at 12 o’clock, a 30-minute chronograph at 3 o’clock, a 60-second chronograph at 6 o’clock and a continuous seconds at 9 o’clock. At the centre are the hour and minute hands coated with luminescent SuperLuminova, and the hundredths-of-a-second chronograph hand, which makes one revolution per second. This function is ensured by the movement, visible both from the front through the skeletonized dial and from the back through the sapphire crystal, which opens on the El Primero 9004 calibre, a self-winding mechanical movement with two escapements oscillating at 36,000 vibrations per hour for the timepiece, and at 360,000 vibrations per hour for the chronograph, and chronometer-certified by the COSC.
Each watch is equipped with two straps that can be easily changed thanks to a new interchangeability system, one in rubber and one in Velcro®, as well as a titanium bracelet.
